They dropped a load of money to acquire it, released a new version, changed the pricing and licensing structure. I also feel that Pitney Bowes has the capital to fund MapInfo development if they choose to do so. I still use MapInfo on a daily basis, as well as Manifold, if PB moves in the direction I believe they are, I will most likely say goodbye to MapInfo, and adopt Manifold as my primary GIS/Mapping software. The one thing that was encouraging was PB MapInfo released MapBasic as a free download for Version 9 licensees. I was also truly disappointed that MapInfo abandoned project Grande, which was going to transition MapInfo into the. I don't know if that has or is going to happen. I was hoping that PB would shock the people in Troy out of their seeming complaceny. They have added some functionality over the past two full versions, but they have not added enough to justify the upgrade costs. Being a long time MapInfo user, I had very mixed emotions regarding the acquisition. ![]()
